Are you ashamed of your lawn? Do you have embarrassing bald spots that need attention?
Adding Bermuda or Zoysia turf grass to bare spots is a great cure for this problem. July is the best time to repair those bare spots in the yard. Make sure you loosen the soil six inches deep before adding the new sod to the bare areas. Add enough water to keep the upper half-inch of soil moist, but not soggy. Don't be surprised if your new Bermuda or Zoysia sod grass turns brown within a few days after planting. The heat will usually cause this stress. As long as you keep the sod moist it will return to its normal green color in about 1-3 weeks. If you don't plan on watering your new sod this time of year I would encourage you to wait until cooler temperatures to address your bald spots.
Wait 3-4 weeks to fertilize the new turf grass. Use a simple 13-13-13 or a slow release fertilizer like 29-3-12. Water in and keep moist, not soggy. Your embarrassing bald spots should be gone in no time.
