If you live in the Southeast, chances are you have gotten plenty of rain over the past few weeks. Perhaps, you have even gotten too much rain! How can you tell? Check your plants for yellowing leaves, drooping stems, or stunted growth. Check your soil’s consistency to see if the soil is merely damp or whether it is soggy. A fresh rain is a wonderful thing to a plant, however there is such a thing as too much of a good thing! If your lawn and plants become too wet from too much rain, there is a possibility it could die. So what should you do the next time your area looks as if it is in the midst of monsoon season? Try these tips for your lawn and plants: For your lawn, you can scatter hay or straw, so that the lawn is not disturbed or damaged in the event that the lawn has to be walked and or driven on. Also, this gives a little protection from torrential downpours. For your plants, you can create or trenches out of the soil to lead excess water away from your plants. Add more mulch to your soil; the more mulch the better the drainage in that particular area. Mulch helps aerate the soil. Raised flowerbeds are great for providing sufficient drainage.
